Linux Raid : which is the failed hard disk ?

In a simple raid 1 environment where you have only two disks , guess which is the broken one is easy, but what happens if you have a raid with 3 or more disks ? in my experience for sata devices i have never get sda = first sata channel, so i cannot count on this.

If you have a Raid sofware in Linux it may happen that a disk fails, and you have to change it.

Luckly hdparm comes in help

After you have discovered which is the failed device , just digit

hdparm -I /dev/YOURDEVICE | grep Serial
